On November 15, the 5th China (Shaoxing) Life and Health Industry Conference, themed “Pharmaceutical Research and Innovation Leading the Future,” was held in Shaoxing, alongside the 2024 Forbes China Biopharmaceutical Innovation Conference. The event featured speeches from Shaoxing Party Secretary Shi Huifang, Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Drug Administration Chen Kui, and Academicians Wang Zhixin and Tan Weihong from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Other attendees included Academician Zheng Yuguo from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, General Manager of Forbes China Group Guo Junyi, Vice Chairman of the Shaoxing Municipal People’s Congress and Secretary-General of the Shaoxing Municipal Party Committee Ma Guocan, Director of the Binhai New Area Management Committee Yan Gang, among others.
Shi Huifang first welcomed all guests on behalf of the Shaoxing Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government. He pointed out that Shaoxing is a city with a rich traditional pharmaceutical culture and a thriving modern health industry. In recent years, Shaoxing has adhered to the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, focusing on both technological innovation and industrial innovation. The city has been working at full speed to seize the opportunities in emerging fields, fostering the growth of new industries and cultivating innovative talents. This has greatly promoted deep collaboration between industry, academia, research, and application, and the efficient integration of “medicine, health, and wellness.” He emphasized that Shaoxing will use this conference as an opportunity to strengthen its industrial chains, enhance innovation capacity, and continue creating a thriving business environment to support the high-quality development of the health industry. He invited more enterprises, technologies, and capital to settle in Shaoxing and collaborate to create a brighter future for the biopharmaceutical and health industry.
Chen Kui mentioned that biopharmaceuticals are one of the key emerging industries that Shaoxing is actively fostering. The city has established a collaborative mechanism that involves “chain leaders” and specialized entities to promote the growth of industrial clusters. He hopes that Shaoxing will take this conference as a new starting point, continuing to drive innovation and improve the business environment while enhancing safety measures. The aim is to further develop new internal drivers, strengthen industrial modernization, and ensure that more “Shaoxing medicines” enter the national market, making a greater contribution to the province’s biopharmaceutical industry development.
Wang Zhixin remarked that the Chinese Academy of Sciences has always placed significant emphasis on life and health-related research. The themes of this conference, which focus on the pulse of the industry and address contemporary needs, are highly timely. He looks forward to collaborating with experts, scholars, and industry leaders to explore new directions and pathways in the life and health field, promoting interdisciplinary and cross-sector cooperation. He believes that this conference will further stimulate global innovation in life and health, bringing new hope for solving complex diseases and improving the quality of life for all humankind.
Tan Weihong shared that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed a “health-first development strategy” and made comprehensive plans for the health sector, bringing significant opportunities for the life and health industry. Against this backdrop, the joint hosting of the China (Shaoxing) Life and Health Industry Conference and the Forbes China Biopharmaceutical Innovation Conference is a perfect synergy. He looks forward to deepening strategic cooperation with Shaoxing, strengthening collaborative innovation, and jointly building benchmark projects in the life and health field, to provide better medical services and health protection for Shaoxing and the Yangtze River Delta region.
During the conference, the Binhai New Area presented its industrial platforms and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Forbes China. Several projects were signed, and invited leaders and guests delivered keynote speeches. The conference also hosted discussions on the development and cooperation of innovative drugs, improved new drugs, biopharmaceuticals, and the big health industry.
